Think tank Magma cordially invites you to participate in our lunch seminar on

Islamophobia and Anti-semitism

 - reflections on the debate in Europe

Professor of Cultural Anthropology and chair of ‘Islam in European societies’, Dr. Thijl Sunier from the University of Amsterdam, will share his views on this on

Wednesday, May 6th, 2015 at 12.00 – 13.00 at Café Esplanad, Pohjoisesplanadi 37, in Helsinki.

The attacks in Paris in January and in Copenhagen in February 2015 have propelled Europeans to debate not only freedom of speech but also the ethnic and religious relations in our countries. The recurring debate about islamophobia and anti-Semitism in Europe has gained new impetus. However, what do we mean by ‘Muslims in Europe’ today? In whose name do offenders speak when they use violence in the name of religion? These are questions highly relevant for understanding how Islam in Europe is taking shape today.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion.

A light lunch will be served from 11.50.

Please register here by May 4th.

Welcome!
